you may park in the University Avenue Ramp, and for workshops in the Earle Brown Continuing Education Center,
you may park in the Gortner Avenue Ramp. Bring your parking ticket with you to your session and we will validate it.
Cancellation Policy
If severe weather forces the College of Continuing Education to cancel courses, CLC services will also be cancelled. Local radio stations will broadcast an announcement to that effect. In the event that the CLC needs to cancel or postpone an event, you will be notified by telephone and/or email. In any case, when a fee-based session is canceled, individuals who have paid in advance will be given the opportunity to re-schedule, or be refunded 100% of their registration fee.
If you must cancel an appointment or attendance at a workshop, please do so as soon as possible to make the time available for others. Depending on the circumstances, you may be charged the full fee for same-day cancellations. Please call 612-626-7222 to reschedule.
Financial Assistance for U of M Career & Lifework Center services
and workshops
We hope that limited financial resources will not prevent you from pursuing
your lifework goals. Several scholarships and grants are available to
support some of the costs for Career & Lifework Center workshops and
individual consultations.
Eligibility for Career & Lifework Center financial assistance
You are eligible to apply for a grant or scholarship if you plan to take
any Career & Lifework Center workshop or individual consultation. Scholarships
and grants provide assistance for adult learners seeking education to
transition into higher skilled and more meaningful lifework, career-oriented
individuals and older adults who are refocusing their skills and talents
toward new lifework opportunities. You do not need to be in a degree or
certificate program at the University of Minnesota. You must be a resident
of Minnesota, and be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible non-citizen.
In addition, if you have a University of Minnesota record, it must be
free of holds that block enrollment or disbursement of aid. Scholarships
may be renewable; recipients need to submit a new application to be considered
for additional funds in a subsequent year.
Criteria for Career & Lifework Center financial assistance
Awards will be granted based upon financial need. Awarding of scholarships
will also be based on a personal statement of educational, career and
lifework goals. We define need as a high enough level of need so that
it would not be possible to use U of M Career & Lifework Center services
without the scholarship or grant, based on the information you give us
on your application and in accordance with special guidelines developed
for assessing the financial needs of adult learners.
How to Apply for Career & Lifework Center financial assistance
An application can be downloaded
(PDF, requires free Acrobat
reader) and mailed to us (using the address on the application) or
faxed to 612-625-1511. Applications are also available by calling the
University of Minnesota Career & Lifework Center at 612-626-7222. If
you have any questions, contact the Career
& Lifework Center.
Application Deadline
Applications will be considered on an ongoing basis based upon available
funding. Applications should be received 10 or more working days before
the start of a workshop or consultation.
Review Process
Your application will be reviewed by the U of M Career & Lifework Center
grant and scholarship committee in consultation with College of Continuing
Education financial aid advisers. You will be notified by mail of the
funding decision within seven to ten business days. The review will be
conducted in accordance with special guidelines developed for assessing
the financial needs of adult learners. Award amounts will be based upon
your level of need and the availability of funds.
Awards
Financial assistance may be used only for workshops or consultations within
the University of Minnesota Career & Lifework Center. No cash awards
are made. Any services received before funds are awarded must be paid
for out-of-pocket; funds cannot be applied retroactively.
If you are awarded a grant or scholarship and the award does not cover the full cost of your workshop or individual consultation, you will receive a bill for any balance due with your award letter. We must receive your payment or credit card authorization by the date shown on the bill or you may forfeit your financial assistance and your place in the workshop.
